Providing quality customer services to Homes Tasmania’s 5 200 households relies on good information management systems.
The Housing Management System (HMS) safely and securely maintains all Homes Tasmania’s tenancy and property management information.
HMS helps Homes Tasmania’s staff deliver services across the duration of a tenancy and the lifecycle of a property.
These services include allocating properties to Tasmanians on the Housing Register managing rent accounts, scheduling property inspections, coordinating tenant support needs, and registering and resolving property maintenance requests.
Managing and maintaining such a large database of information and the systems that support core business can sometimes be an invisible aspect of an organisation.
Jason is the Applications Support Coordinator within the Information and Technology Management Team (ITMS) at Homes Tasmania. In his role, Jason trains new staff to use HMS and provides ongoing support to staff via the help desk support.
“The information kept in HMS means that Homes Tasmania staff can better allocate resources as well as plan and deliver more tailored programs and services to assist Tasmanians in achieving more affordable, secure housing,” he said.
Jason provides training tailored to individual learning needs.
“A lot of the training I do is online, with e-learning modules and I also provide face to face training statewide for those who prefer it,” Jason said.
“My team adapts to the needs and training requirements for staff, whether it’s someone who is starting out and needs hands on training online or face to face, or someone who needs a refresher and can walk themselves through online modules.
“It’s about being flexible around the requirements of people and how they learn.
“Being in a support role, I provide training to our frontline staff in the incredible work they go out and do. It’s very rewarding to be a part of that process and I feel like I indirectly play a part in how they support people.”
Jason has been working in the housing space for 18 years, starting his career as a tenancy officer, and has since worked in a variety of roles across the organisation.
“I can honestly say that I have had great opportunities to act in different roles and at different levels,” Jason said.
“It’s meant I have never felt stagnant in my job, and it has given me the chance to grow my skills. I have a broad knowledge of our organisation which helps with developing and providing training.
“Eighteen years later and I still love my job. I’ve been part of and worked with, some fantastic teams. I’ve always enjoyed my role and working for Homes Tasmania and supporting staff deliver services to our tenants.”
