A Request for Tender (RFT) for the Apartment Development Purchase Program is now registered on the Tasmanian Government’s tender website as a future opportunity - https://www.tenders.tas.gov.au/

The pilot program is one of the ways we are looking to increase the supply of medium-density, infill development housing options for Tasmanians.

Builders and developers are encouraged to participate in the upcoming RFT to bring forward new residential apartment developments with a minimum of 25 units, in well-located areas where Tasmanians want to live.

Apartments must be ready for occupation by or before 30 June 2027.

Under the program, Homes Tasmania aims to purchase a total of 15 units across at least three new apartments developments, with a preference for at least one approved project in each region.

The purchase of new apartments will be part of our key worker accommodation program, delivering more homes for essential workers.

The Apartment Development Purchase Program is aligned to the Tasmanian Housing Strategy, which recognises the need to use residential land more efficiently by:

• deliver 10 000 new social and affordable housing opportunities by 30 June 2032
• delivering more medium density and infill housing providing a range of homes to meet the diverse needs of Tasmanians
• reducing costs of development by building on existing infrastructure and civic amenities to meet the needs of new communities, and
• prioritising housing development that enables local prosperity because housing is a fundamental component of Tasmania’s economic growth aspirations.
