Homes Tasmania has purchased the redeveloped former Aberdeen Court Motel in Punchbowl, to deliver 24 fully furnished units of accommodation for health workers in northern Tasmania.

Using former short-stay accommodation allows dwellings that are currently being rented by the Department of Health for key workers to be released back into the private market for long-term rental accommodation for Tasmanian families.

In partnership with Department of Health, the former motel will be used to provide accommodation to nurses, locums and workers on short-term contracts in the region.

The facility includes 20 two-bedroom units and four one-bedroom units, each with its own living space, accessible bathroom and laundry facility. Each unit also has a private courtyard or balcony, and the facility also has common areas.

A key priority of the Tasmanian Housing Strategy is to enable local prosperity so Tasmanians have a greater choice of homes where they want to live.

It is also one way that Homes Tasmania is supporting the delivery of healthcare services throughout the state and improving access to housing for more Tasmanians.
