The February Dashboard demonstrates Homes Tasmania’s ongoing actions to improve the housing system.
A total of 4 280 homes have been completed towards the target of 10 000 social and affordable homes by 2032.
There are a further 630 projects in our construction pipeline and 5 090 homes and lots of land in the concept phase.
The popularity of our MyHome shared equity scheme continues to grow, with another 34 purchases settled in February.
MyHome has now helped almost 700 Tasmanian families and individuals realise their home ownership dream since it was introduced on 1 July 2022. This includes 162 purchases in 2022-23 and 273 purchases in 2023-24.
And we are set for an even bigger year in 2024-25, with 260 purchases completed already as at the end of February.
We are also working to make MyHome even better, consulting with our banking partner Bank of us and other stakeholders to improve the program so we can help even more Tasmanians into their own home.
The Tasmanian Housing Strategy 2023-2043 aims to improve the entire housing system and ensure all Tasmanians have access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing.
Not only are we working to get more Tasmanians into homes faster, we are also working hard to improve our existing social housing homes and increase the amenity for our tenants.
Last month we released a Request for Tender to establish a Property Maintenance Contractor Panel to trial a new way of delivering general maintenance services to the properties we manage in southern Tasmania.
It is crucial we explore new approaches so we can effectively respond to the maintenance needs of our housing portfolio, which is increasingly including more diverse specialised accommodation initiatives.
The two-year trial, which will begin on 1 July 2025, is expected to deliver faster maintenance to tenants, resulting in better-maintained homes and lower maintenance costs.
